Biography

Jane Louisa[1] Outen Bogart was born on 6 August 1795 to Joseph and Jane (Fink) Outen Bogart in New York City.[2]

Jane married Leonard Baker, of Albany, in July 1816 in New York City.[3] Leonard was sometimes styled as Captain, and was a partner in a stage coach running between New York City and Albany called the Diligence Stage.[4]

Leonard Baker, then a resident of No. 70 Bowery, died on 11 September 1826, in his 47th year.[5] A household headed by a Mrs. Leonard Baker is found in the 6th Ward in New York City in 1830, consisting of two women in their 30s, two women in their 20s, 2 males aged 15-20, and two men in their 30s.[6] Leonard's death record referred to him as an affectionate father,[5] but none of the people from the census are young enough to have been Jane's children with Leonard. Some if not all of them may have been Leonard Baker's by his first wife – a Harriet Baker, daughter of Leonard and Abigail Baker of Albany, was a student at the Litchfield Female Academy in 1816 and 1817.[7]

Jane married, second, John A. Willis, on 20 April 1831.[2]

John became one of the co-administrators of Jane's father's estate when he died in 1838.[8][9]

Jane died on 12 October 1842.[10]

Child of John A. and Jane L. (Outen Bogart) Willis:[11]

  • Charles Henry Willis, b. abt. 1832; d. November 1850
